Summary Information of the Podcast: Transcript:
Hello! My name is Patrick, and I'm the new owner of Systems Plus Computers. I’m excited to talk to you today about our first podcast. This podcast will cover a variety of technology topics in an educational format. As you know, at Systems Plus, we handle retail, repair, and business services. In each episode, we'll explore these areas in detail.
I’ve been working with computers since 1998. My first job involved delivering computers to people, and it was one of my favorite jobs. Seeing the excitement on customers' faces when they received their new computers was incredible. Back then, transitioning from Windows 3.11 to Windows 95 meant a lot of questions about new features like the Start button and File Explorer.
In today’s episode, we’ll cover a few topics. First, we’ll discuss the new iPad Air and later speak with Chris about repair trends.
iPad Air Overview
Hi, Katie! Can you give us a quick demo of the new iPad Air?
Katie: Sure! The new iPad Air 13 is a fantastic deal with the M2 Apple Silicon processor. It offers great performance and a large screen, starting at $799. This powerful iPad is excellent for tasks like editing in Final Cut Pro or heavy-duty work with Excel. You can also use the Apple Pencil for drawing directly on the screen.
One of my favorite accessories for the iPad Air is the keyboard case. It offers great angles, supports wireless charging, and includes a mouse. The keyboard is detachable, allowing you to use the iPad in various configurations. The case charges through magnets, which is a neat feature.
Repair Trends
Hi, Chris. Thanks for joining us for our inaugural Systems Plus podcast. Can you share some recent trends in repairs?
Chris: Of course! One of the most common repairs we see is broken screens, whether on iPhones or computers. This is why we encourage customers to get AppleCare+ with unlimited incident coverage. Without it, repairing a broken screen can be costly—$300 or more for an iPhone and around $600-$700 for a MacBook Air or Pro.
A trend we’ve noticed is that many screen breaks are caused by pets, particularly cats, nibbling on screens.
Regarding Apple's new "Find My" feature, it's crucial to turn it off before a repair. This feature locks the firmware of the device, preventing us from performing repairs. If "Find My" is enabled with theft and loss protection, it must be turned off on the device’s home network before we can proceed with a repair. This can be challenging if the device is not on a familiar network or if the customer is traveling.
Screen Protection Tips
To protect your screens, consider using plastic screen protectors. Avoid dropping your devices, and be mindful of objects between the screen and keyboard. Sometimes, even small items like a pencil or paperclip left in the keyboard area can cause damage. Additionally, ensure your keyboard is free of debris to prevent accidental damage.
Thank you for tuning in to the first episode of the Systems Plus podcast. A special thanks to Chris and Katie for their insights. Visit us at our retail location at 390 Miracle Mile, Lebanon, New Hampshire. Have a great day!
